The Staffordshire County League As the name suggests, a league for clubs only within Staffordshire, and swam over a 4 round annual competition. The ages are 10, 12, 14 and Open…..but the stronger 9’s, 11’s, and 13yrs will probably be involved too. As a rule, the club will always try and swim this league competition as strong as it can, as it is a measure of our abilities against such local clubs as Burton , Lichfield, Stafford, Biddulph and Newcastle , there is therefore a degree of local pride at stake. After round 3, the clubs, and there are currently 20, are then seeded into 4 groups of 5 teams in each group, the strongest 5 in group 1, the second strongest 5 in group 2, and so on. The fourth round is then regarded as the league finals to determine the strongest team in each of the “4 divisions”. Trophies are awarded to each of the division champions. Some of the opposition in the league is particularly strong, such clubs as Walsall and Phoenix Youth, both of whom have such strength in depth as they are capable of swimming both an “A” and “B” team. Nevertheless, it is always good experience to come up against this opposition now and again, but of course not too often. Occasionally one or two of our swimmers become a little demoralised when swimming against such opposition, this should not be the case, you are in there doing your best, and your club is proud of you…..and be proud of your club too. 2007 Competition. Round 1 saw us travel to Tamworth on the 10th March, where we finished 4th.
